Greatly reduces swaying movement for the Garmin eTrex 20 The one drawback with the eTrex 20 is the battery case has a small metal keychain attachment that also serves as the mechanism for opening the battery pack. Originally I attached a keychain to this loop, then clipped that keychain to my backpack shoulder strap with a small carabiner (the key loop on the battery pack is too narrow to fit almost all carabiners, thus you need a keychain loop). When hiking my Garmin would sway back and forth, sometimes violently if I was heading downhill quickly…
A fine accessory…with one modification I agree with previous reviews stating that this accessory is bulletproof. It holds very securely to my eTrex 20x. In reading the other reviews, there is a certain degree of belief that the handheld should be hanging upside down in order to facilitate an easier read when turned over. Is this a design flaw? Regardless of why it was designed that way, I am using a work around which works well, at least for me. As I generally hike with my day pack, I installed a metal swivel (pictured) on the waist…
Think about how you’re going to use it before buying. The carabiner is solid and I have no worry about my Garmin coming off as it attaches quite strongly – it’s actually very hard to take it off my device. My main complaint is that it should attach to the device in the other direction. If you have it hooked on your belt or backpack strap you want to be able to lift it quickly and look at your device right-side-up. With this carabiner your device will be upside down as you lift it towards yourself. Definitely seems to have been designed…
